Graveyard Keeper 2 Tech Tree Cost List and Full Total
Graveyard Keeper 2 tech tree costs 11,157 red, 5,129 green and 4,132 blue across 236 entries, split tab by tab with the priciest nodes and a full metal path.
How much does the whole Graveyard Keeper 2 tech tree cost?
Buying every entry in the shipped tech tree costs 11,157 red, 5,129 green and 4,132 blue tech points. That total covers all 236 records, and the ten reputation gates that cost nothing do not move it. Red is the budget that matters: Tabs 0 and 1 between them take 73% of every red point in the game.
| Tab | Records | Research nodes | Reputation gates | Red | Green | Blue | Red share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tab 0 | 54 | 52 | 2 | 4,470 | 257 | 670 | 40% |
| Tab 1 | 47 | 45 | 2 | 3,680 | 330 | 340 | 33% |

The shipped data records the tab as a bare integer and gives it no name, so this page uses Tab 0 through Tab 5 in the in-game tab order. What each tab does with its points is covered branch by branch in the tech tree overview; this page is the cost side of that same tree.
Two lines in that table decide your whole run. Tab 2 is effectively free in red — all 34 of its nodes together cost 5 red, and only one of them, Millstone, spends any at all. Every other red point in the game goes to Tab 0, Tab 1 and Tab 4, which is why the tech points farming guide spends its length on red routes rather than green ones.
Why do the published tech tree totals come up so much lower?
A total of 4,470 red, 257 green and 670 blue for 52 technologies circulates as the price of the full tree. Those four numbers are not the full tree. They are Tab 0, exactly and completely: 52 research nodes, 4,470 red, 257 green, 670 blue. Every one of the figures matches.
The five other tabs add 6,687 red, 4,872 green and 3,462 blue on top, which puts the real tree at 2.5 times the red, 20 times the green and 6.2 times the blue of the number usually quoted. The green gap is the widest because Tab 2 alone holds 2,575 green — half of the entire green budget, concentrated in one branch.
Planning against the smaller number is the mistake that leaves players stuck in Tab 1 with an empty red bar in late game. The complementary side of the budget is the science and blue points breakdown, which shows which items pay red when researched and which only pay green or blue.
How are the 206 research nodes spread by cost?
Red is used far more widely than the other two colours. 155 of the 206 research nodes charge red, against 111 for green and 124 for blue, so most entries are not colour-neutral. Only 33 nodes charge all three spheres at once.
| Sphere cost per node | Red | Green | Blue |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0 — colour not used | 51 | 95 | 82 |
| 1–49 | 64 | 67 | 98 |
| 50–99 | 39 | 26 | 13 |
| 100–149 | 28 | 11 | 11 |
| 150 or more | 24 | 7 | 2 |

The tail is thin in every colour but red keeps 24 nodes at 150 or more, against 7 green and 2 blue. Two thirds of the blue budget sits in two tabs: Tab 4 holds 1,642 of the game’s 4,132 blue points and Tab 3 another 1,120. Single-node purchases like Vineyard Improvement at 175 green are what a large branch price is made of.
Which technologies are the most expensive single purchases?
Marble Gravestones II is the priciest entry in the tree at 300 red plus 100 blue. The colour extremes are Vineyard Improvement at 175 green and Reanimation III at 300 blue, and those two 300-point nodes are the only places in the game where a single sphere reaches 300. Late-game Tab 4 content takes eight of the top eleven slots.
| Technology | Tab | Red | Green | Blue | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Marble Gravestones II | 4 | 300 | 0 | 100 | 400 |
| Graveyard Decor II | 4 | 200 | 100 | 100 | 400 |
| Alchemy, Advanced | 4 | 200 | 0 | 100 | 300 |
| Embalming III | 4 | 150 | 0 | 150 | 300 |
| Reanimation III | 4 | 0 | 0 | 300 | 300 |
| Self-Help Books II | 3 | 100 | 100 | 100 | 300 |
| Graveyard Path and Fence II | 4 | 100 | 100 | 100 | 300 |
| Columbariums II | 4 | 0 | 150 | 100 | 250 |
| Marble Gravestones I | 4 | 200 | 0 | 50 | 250 |
| Church Furniture III | 3 | 100 | 70 | 80 | 250 |
| Archers Tower III | 1 | 160 | 80 | 0 | 240 |

Alchemy, Advanced is the one to bank for rather than rush, because it opens the Philosopher Stone and Gold Food formulas rather than a single item. The archers tower line is the outlier in Tab 1, where defence research outprices the metallurgy around it; the defence structures and power page pairs those prices with the hit points they buy.
What does the metal path from bronze to masterwork armour cost?
The spine from Bronze Works to Masterwork Equipment is 15 nodes and 1,135 red, 0 green and 95 blue. That is one path out of 206 research nodes, and it eats 10% of the game’s entire red budget on its own. One reputation gate sits inside it: Steel Smithing will not appear until Jack reaches 70.
| Node | Red | Green | Blue | Running red |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bronze Works | 5 | 0 | 0 | 5 |
| Bronze Melting | 10 | 0 | 0 | 15 |
| Bronze Craft | 30 | 0 | 0 | 45 |
| Bronze Forge | 20 | 0 | 0 | 65 |
| Bronze Polishing | 30 | 0 | 0 | 95 |
| Iron Forge | 35 | 0 | 0 | 130 |
| Iron Smithing | 50 | 0 | 0 | 180 |
| Iron Works | 75 | 0 | 0 | 255 |
| Iron Equipment | 80 | 0 | 0 | 335 |
| Iron Instruments I | 80 | 0 | 15 | 415 |
| Iron Products | 90 | 0 | 10 | 505 |
| Steel Smithing | 120 | 0 | 15 | 625 |
| Steel Instruments II | 150 | 0 | 20 | 775 |
| Steel Equipment | 160 | 0 | 10 | 935 |
| Masterwork Equipment | 200 | 0 | 25 | 1,135 |

Iron Equipment at 80 red unlocks the iron sword and armour recipes, which is why the iron guide stops at that number rather than a material cost. Steel Equipment sits further down, behind Steel Instruments II, at 160 red plus 10 blue — the figure the steel guide builds its armour budget around. A parallel branch through Steel Casting, Smithy II, Steel Works and Lenses costs 660 red and 80 blue, and the crafting station list shows where the anvils those nodes unlock sit.
How much of the tree is genuinely free?
Thirty-seven records cost nothing at all: 20 Cooking entries, 10 reputation gates and 7 research nodes. Tab 5 is entirely free and entirely hidden at the start, unlocking 20 recipe groups worth 39 recipes from quests, fishing, gathering and repairs rather than from points. A locked Cooking entry is never a points problem.
| Free research node | Tab | What it opens |
|---|---|---|
| Market Stalls I | 0 | Pharmacy, Vegetable and Tailor town buildings |
| Church Cleaning | 3 | Church bench and the first church upgrade |
| Autopsy, Basic | 4 | Autopsy table and the corpse pallet |
| Alchemy, Basic | 4 | Alchemy mixing bench, flask shed, Dream Dust formula |
| Soft parts | 4 | Fake flesh, fake blood and fake fat crafts |
| Lacquer | 4 | Lacquer formula |
| Wooden Sign | 4 | Wooden sign craft |

The four start-of-run unlocks that matter are Autopsy Basic, Church Cleaning, Alchemy Basic and Market Stalls I. They cost no points, so what they gate is time and quest progress — the subject of the church and sermons guide and the energy and insanity breakdown rather than spheres.
What do the 206 research nodes actually unlock?
The 206 research nodes pay out 243 recipe unlocks, 174 building placements, 25 alchemy formulas and 12 town buildings, spread across 142, 123, 16 and 5 nodes. No node unlocks a perk, and only the ten separate CharRep records carry a reputation lock. Recipes are the largest payout and alchemy formulas the rarest.
| Unlock type | Nodes that grant it | Entries granted |
|---|---|---|
| Craft recipes | 142 | 243 |
| Building placements | 123 | 174 |
| Alchemy formulas | 16 | 25 |
| Town buildings | 5 | 12 |
| Perks | 0 | 0 |

Because no node grants a perk, the perk trees sit entirely outside the sphere economy — the zombie talent tree list covers that side. The 16 alchemy nodes are worth reading individually, because they are the only route to Philosopher Stone, Reanimation Liquid, Third Eye Salt and the three battle potion tiers, and their prices run from free to 200 red plus 100 blue.
