Graveyard Keeper 2 Science and Blue Points Guide

How do Science and blue points work?

Two resources, one loop. Science pays for studies at the Study Table, and studies pay out red, green and blue tech points — with blue concentrated here more than in any other channel. Gathering pays red and green per action; blue arrives in volume only through research and a short list of high-value crafts and direct-use items.

Three items carry Science, and Clean Paper is the one you can mass-produce.

Science source Science value How to make it
Clean Paper 1 1 Leather Scroll → 6 at the Writing Desk, or 1 Paper glop → 20 at the Paper Press
Science Kit I 30 1 Alchemy Flasks I + 5 Clean Paper + 1 Ink → 3 at the Writing Desk
Science Kit II 60 1 Alchemy Flasks II + 1 Blank Softcover Notebook + 2 Ink → 3 at the Writing Desk

Each studied item costs 1 to 50 Science plus the item itself, and 6 to 32 energy per study (2 to 14 with the Researcher perk). Plan study sessions before anything else that day: a full bag of unstudied materials is the cheapest blue you will ever buy. The branch-by-branch demand is in the tech tree overview.

Where do your first blue points come from?

From the Study Table in the church basement — the first place blue points appear. Before that table is running you cannot meaningfully enter the blue-heavy branches, which is why Writing Basic and Writing Supplies matter so much early: Writing Supplies opens Clean Paper, Ink and Science Kit I, the three inputs the whole loop runs on.

Theology unlocks during the Holy Moly! quest and Anatomy and Alchemy unlocks when you place your first corpse on the autopsy table. Until then, nodes in those branches are visible but out of reach, so banking early blue is correct rather than wasted. Gathering and crafting sources that pay all three colours are collected in the tech point farming guide, and the per-item research payouts are broken out on science research yields.

Which items pay the most blue points?

Studying all 396 researchable items returns 5,105 red, 6,470 green and 5,385 blue — research alone covers green and blue with room to spare, while red arrives at just 44% of what the tree costs. Of those 396 entries, 393 pay points and three pay nothing: Clean Paper, Science Kit I and Science Kit II.

Thirty-five entries pay all three colours at once, for 670 red, 650 green and 525 blue between them. Outside studying, the blue payouts below are the ones worth planning around.

Source Blue payout Notes
Studying all 396 items 5,385 total One payout per entry; bronze, silver and gold count separately
Marble Cross II / Marble Fence II 15 per craft Best single-craft blue payout
Blue Techbook / Blue Techbook II 25 / 50 on use Printed at the Printing Press (see below)
Elder’s meal 30 on use Pays 30 red, 30 green and 30 blue as three separate entries
Fisherman’s pie 10 on use Pays 10 red, 10 green and 10 blue
Kraken steak 50 on use Blue only; cooked at the Kitchen Oven
Fried golden carp 50 on use Green only; cooked at the Kitchen Oven

Eleven items in the whole game pay tech points on use, and that is the complete list: the six Techbooks — Red, Green and Blue, each in a 25-point and a 50-point version — plus the five dishes named above. Every other item in this build pays nothing on use, so a food that is not on that list will not move your blue bar at all. Food energy and the tired-state rules around long sessions are in the energy and insanity guide.

How do Story tiers become Techbooks?

The Printing Press turns Story quality tiers into direct-use tech point items. This is where the “gold story” searches land: Story (gold) is not a collectible, it is the top tier of the Writing Desk upgrade chain feeding the press.

Techbook Recipe at the Printing Press
Red / Green / Blue Techbook 1 Blank Softcover Notebook + 1 Ink + 1 Story (silver)
Red / Green / Blue Techbook II 1 Blank Hardcover Notebook + 1 Ink + 1 Story (gold)
Glossary 1 Blank Hardcover Notebook + 1 Ink + 1 Story (gold)
Trilogy 3 Blank Hardcover Notebook + 3 Ink + 3 Story (gold)

Story itself costs 3 Faith plus 2 Clean Paper plus 1 Ink at the Writing Desk, and silver and gold tiers upgrade two-to-one. Where to build that bench and its full 24-recipe list are in the Writing Desk location guide.

Where do you buy research inputs?

Three traders stock the loop, and Gunter is the one new players miss because he sits at the astrologer tower in the Port rather than in the village, behind the quest line that also unlocks the necronomicon recipes. The other two are easier to find: both sit on the main Port walk.

Trader Stocks Gate
Alchemist Science Kit I (from the start), Science Kit II (level 2), Clean Paper, Ink, Paper glop, growth elixirs Village alchemy shop
Gunter Firefly, Comet’s Tail, Hypno-device (level 3) Astrologer tower in the Port
Apothecary Alchemic Powders by rune, Melted Fat Village apothecary

Firefly and Comet’s Tail are alchemy ingredients first — Firefly appears in 9 recipes and Comet’s Tail feeds the fairy summon — but both enter through Gunter’s stock, which makes his reputation track part of your research supply. His tarot quest also hands you three free zombie workers at reputation 10, covered in how to get zombie workers.
