Graveyard Keeper 2 Gratitude — How to Get and Cap It

What is Gratitude in Graveyard Keeper 2?

Gratitude, called Town Gratitude in the interface and Likes in wikily’s database, is the town popularity resource shown as a golden thumbs-up icon at the top of the screen. It is spent once a week at the Wrath-day sermon, where each point you bring becomes one parishioner whose attendance pays Faith and money.

Older machine-translated guides call the same resource happiness, so all three names describe one thing. The chain runs Gratitude into sermon attendance, attendance into Faith, and Faith into the Inspiration claims that gate your perk trees — the spending side is in Faith and Inspirations.

What is the Gratitude cap, and how do you raise it?

The cap starts at 10. Winning the first town battle, Break Through to the Port, raises it by 10 to 20, and Prima Games describes the same jump as unlocking the Town and increasing your rank. Most sources name the battle rather than a quest hand-in as the trigger.

Two conflicts are worth flagging. graveyardkeeper2.cyou says Certificate, Please, the first Herbert quest, Adds 10 town quality, but four other sources point to the first battle instead, so treat that as a doubtful single claim. Separately, a GameRant writer reports that the cap did not rise after clearing every battle on that side of the river and finishing the election, and notes an NPC asking for 100 Faith; that is one unverified playthrough. Prima Games adds that the cap increases again each time you expand and unlock new areas tied to the main questline. The town restoration guide covers the battle that raises it.

How do you get Gratitude?

Six repeatable sources feed Gratitude and almost all of them are weekly-capped. Burial Certificates sold to Januarius, liked goods sold to Herm and other merchants, river fish fillets, quest scrolls, battle wins and Town Warehouse orders make up the practical list.

Source Cost per point Weekly cap
Burial Certificate sold to Januarius, the tavern keeper 1 certificate = 1 point About 5 points from this source
Goods with the gold thumbs-up sold to Herm or another merchant About 15 items = 1 point 2 points per crop type, so 30 items
River fish fillets 2.5 fillets = 1 point (5 fillets = 2 points) Capped weekly
Quest rewards paid as Town Gratitude scrolls 1 scroll = 5 points
Battle victories 3, 4 or 8 points per battle; Break Through to the Port pays 4
Town Warehouse orders Commonly 15, 20 or 25 points per delivery Pride day pickup only, 2 active orders
Buying Town Gratitude scrolls from the tavern 10 silver per scroll for 5 points

Two of the rates cross-check well. Sportskeeda’s 15 items per point and 5 fillets per 2 points agree with the r/GraveyardKeeper conversion 2 fillets + 3 vegetables = 1GP, which works out to roughly 1.0 point. Sources disagree on the scroll price, though: wikily.gg and Sportskeeda both write 10 silver while GameRant writes 5 silver.

One moving part: the thumbs-up tag only appears when a trader currently wants that good. Sell too much of one item and the tag vanishes until demand refreshes, so rotate crops or wait a few days. The bottom of the shop menu shows how much Gratitude the trade will pay before you confirm.

Is buying and reselling the cheapest way to fill 10 points?

A community video tested that loop on demo build 1.002.4: buy liked goods from Herm and sell the same goods straight back. The round trip fills all 10 points for a net 2 silver 26 copper, and the post-sermon donation box refunds more than that.

The quoted numbers: buying 5 fillets with 30 wheat, 30 carrots, 30 beets and 30 cabbage cost 7s 53c, selling them back returned 5s 27c, for a net 2s 26c across the full 10 points. Emptying the church donation box after the sermon gave 2s 70c, leaving a net profit of 44 copper for the week. That is community testing rather than game-file values, and prices shift with reputation and discounts, so treat the profit as a demonstration of the method rather than a fixed rate.

How does Gratitude decide sermon payouts?

Attendance equals the lower of your Gratitude and your church quality, so Gratitude is a hard ceiling on every sermon. With zero Gratitude nobody attends no matter how good the church, and the success rate is then attendance divided by the prayer’s difficulty, capped at 100 percent.

wikily’s mechanism note puts it plainly: the number of parishioners who come is the lower of Likes and church quality, and each parishioner costs one Like. Because the whole stock is consumed in one sermon, how you fill it matters more than how much you hoard. The formula and the worked payout example are in Church and Sermons.

What happens to leftover Gratitude at the end of the week?

Nothing carries over into the next week. Gratitude is a single-use consumable: points above your cap are lost when you gain them, and unspent points do not follow you forward. Spare quest scrolls, which cannot be banked, are the usual way players waste it.

The scrolls are single use and any excess above the town rank cap is lost, so it pays to empty the stock before the next Wrath. Some weekly timers do reset on Pride day, including merchants’ weekly Likes caps and the order board, which makes Pride the natural day to plan the week’s Gratitude. The shop and economy guide covers the merchant side, and the Herbert quest line is where the first cap increase sits.
